Flatbush Church Awards Excellence

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, the Flatbush Seventh-day Adventist Church, Brooklyn, NY, hosted its 2nd  annual Evening of Elegance & Leadership Excellence Awards Banquet, with approximately 150 members attending. The congregation transformed their fellowship hall into a place with an ambiance of distinction and celebration.

Under the leadership of Michael Harvey, Ph.D., Church Pastor, it has become a tradition for the congregation to formally recognize the exceptional contributions and leadership of persons. in their community. Over 16 outstanding individuals received the Pastor’s Leadership Excellence Award this year. This award is given to individuals who exemplify consecration, commitment, competence, ethics, and adherence to strong moral values.

Civic recognition was awarded to notable figures for their community leadership roles, including Commanding Officer Gregory Mackie of the 70th Precinct, District Manager Shawn Alyse Campbell from Community Board 14, and James A. Thorton, Ph.D., Pastor of Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

Another award received during the evening was the Adventist Young Luminaries (AYL) Medal of Honor, which aligns with the foundational principles encapsulated in the acronym CAP: Caring, Accountable, and Politeness. This initiative was designed to motivate the youth to manifest these core values across various spheres, including peer interactions, team-building activities, church events, and involvement within their families and educational environments.

Special acknowledgment was also given to the music committee and praise team members for their exemplary leadership and consistent dedication to enriching the worship experience at the Flatbush Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The guest speaker for the awards banquet was Elías F. Zabala, Sr., PhD., Treasurer/CFO of the Atlantic Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Representing the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists at the event was Brian McDonald, PhD., Treasurer/CFO. Both administrators enriched the event’s spirit of camaraderie and enhanced the collective mission for excellence in leadership.

This initiative is instrumental in refining leadership paradigms as the church’s leaders strive toward excellence in service to our Master, Jesus Christ.
